The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded in prison custody for an additional week by the Accra Circuit Court.
He was first arraigned on September 8, 2025, on charges of offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and the publication of false news. Abronye was due to reappear in court on Friday, September 12, 2025. However, during today’s hearing, the court extended his remand, requiring him to return on September 19, 2025.
While the Police have not disclosed details surrounding his alleged misconduct, the outspoken politician has been in the spotlight in recent weeks.
His detention has sparked criticism, with some accusing the Mahama administration of engaging in political witch-hunting. Among those who have weighed in is former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, who argued that President John Dramani Mahama’s government is becoming increasingly intolerant and is silencing dissenting voices.
“Even in the most serious case I prosecuted—the treason trial—all the accused persons were granted bail on the first day. This is in sharp contrast to Abronye’s situation,” Dame stated.
