Ghana’s Black Stars have taken a firm step toward qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a crucial win over Mali, extending their lead at the top of Group I.
The victory, hard-earned against a resilient Malian side, gives Ghana a three-point cushion as the race for a place in North America intensifies.
The return of Thomas Partey and Alexander Djiku to the starting lineup proved vital, bolstering the squad’s strength and boosting their chances. Despite Mali’s strong challenge, it was Djiku’s scrappy second-half equaliser that turned the tide in Ghana’s favour, sealing the win.
With this result, the Black Stars now sit firmly at the summit of Group I with 19 points—three ahead of second-placed Madagascar—heading into the next phase of qualifiers after the September international break.
