The issue of piracy in Ghana’s entertainment industry has once again gained attention, with both Nigerian and Ghanaian filmmakers expressing their frustration over the unauthorized use of their works.
In recent months, several filmmakers from both countries have accused certain television stations of airing their movies without permission. This practice is seen as detrimental to the industry and discouraging investment in high-quality productions.
Nigerian actor and producer Nosa Rex has become the latest voice against this trend. In a video shared by Ameyaw Debrah Media, the visibly upset actor condemned Ghanaian TV stations for broadcasting his latest film, Prince of Peace, just hours after its release, without his consent. He expressed concern that despite the significant financial and creative investment required to produce a film, little is being done by authorities in Ghana to combat piracy.
“I always say this: the Ghanaian entertainment industry will continue to lag behind because of this unacceptable behavior,” he stated, emphasizing that it is wrong for his work to be shown for free without authorization. Nosa did not hold back in his criticism, labeling all Ghanaian TV stations involved as “stupid,” specifically mentioning Unity TV.
He also expressed disappointment in his Ghanaian colleagues for their silence when Nigerian actors and producers raise concerns about piracy. “You people are stupid, the Ghanaian TV stations,” he said bluntly, delivering a strong warning to them to cease this practice.
