NDC’s Sofo Azorka Arrested Over Alleged Assault at Akwatia By-Election

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Alhaji Sofo Azorka, National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in relation to an alleged assault during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 10, police indicated that Alhaji Azorka was picked up in Tamale as part of investigations into an alleged attack on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third National Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The police further noted that Azorka has been cautioned and granted bail, with instructions to report periodically to the Regional Command as inquiries progress.

“The public is assured that thorough investigations will be carried out. The Ghana Police Service remains committed to maintaining law and order. We urge all parties and the general public to stay calm as investigations continue, and we will provide updates in due course,” the statement said.
