The Black Stars missed the chance to extend their lead in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after being held to a draw by Chad.
Ghana, who went into the match on the back of four consecutive victories, looked set for a fifth straight win when Jordan Ayew opened the scoring in the 12th minute. The striker latched onto a precise square pass from Mohammed Kudus to put Otto Addo’s men ahead.
Despite the early lead, the Black Stars struggled to control the game and allowed Chad several opportunities to press forward. Ghana had chances to kill off the match but lacked composure in front of goal. Antoine Semenyo squandered a clear one-on-one opportunity, while Kudus’ curling effort narrowly missed the top corner.
Their wastefulness proved costly in the closing moments. In the 90th minute, Celestine Ecua was allowed to charge through midfield before unleashing a strike that deflected off Caleb Yirenkyi and beat the Ghanaian goalkeeper, leveling the score.
The late equalizer handed Chad their first point of the qualifiers after six straight defeats, marking a memorable return to hosting a home fixture in six years.
Ghana will now look to bounce back when they face Mali on September 8, as they aim to return to winning ways.
