President John Dramani Mahama has called on the contractor handling the Ofankor–Nsawam Road project to remain on schedule and ensure completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
During a working visit to the construction site on Wednesday, September 3, President Mahama expressed confidence in the progress made so far, while stressing the importance of sustaining momentum and minimizing inconvenience to motorists.
“I can see that drivers are happy now, and I expect you to maintain a smooth flow of traffic throughout the construction so that road users are not unduly inconvenienced,” he told the contractors.
Reiterating his commitment to holding the contractor accountable, he added: “You have assured us that by the end of the second quarter next year, the project will be completed, and we will hold you to that.”
His remarks come at a time of heightened public concern over the poor state of major highways and persistent traffic congestion, particularly along the Ofankor–Nsawam stretch.
The project, which began in July 2022 under the Akufo-Addo administration, was initially scheduled for completion in July 2024. However, repeated funding delays have pushed back the deadline multiple times, triggering frustration among drivers and residents who continue to endure traffic congestion and environmental challenges caused by the prolonged works.
