The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has arrested ten individuals for allegedly operating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.
The first group of suspects — identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were arrested on October 1, 2025, during a targeted operation at Sogakope. The operation followed extensive intelligence gathering, which led to the apprehension of three males and three females believed to be involved in the fraudulent activity.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had created fake websites and social media pages posing as popular food brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Victims who placed orders on these fake platforms were instructed to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their orders.
Further investigations uncovered that, in some cases, the fraudsters gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the pretense of assisting with payments, subsequently withdrawing funds. Several digital devices suspected to have been used in the scam were seized and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the main suspect, Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke — identified as the leader of the syndicate — along with Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli on October 12, 2025, at their hideout in Haatso, Accra. Twelve mobile phones were recovered from the group and are being preserved for further examination.
All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to appear before court on Monday, October 13, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service is urging members of the public who may have fallen victim to these fraudulent activities to report to the nearest police station to assist in ongoing investigations.
