Husband Found Guilty Of Murder After 8 Years For Shooting Pregnant Wife In Her Sleep.

A seven-person jury found Effort Dankwa guilty of attempted murder for killing his pregnant wife while she was fast asleep.

Benita Dankwa, who had been “feeling like a balloon” when she woke up on August 29, 2015, immediately realized she was paralyzed. A bullet that had been discharged through her chest at close range was later discovered in the couple’s mattress.

The primary suspect was her husband, Effort Dankwa.

The jury, which was made up of six men and a woman, first returned a 4-3 “guilty” conviction before returning a 5-2 guilty verdict. The judge made it clear that a majority vote was not required if the crime did not entail the death penalty. Yet, the majority must be at least 5-2 in order to convict someone.

The jury returned and delivered its verdicts promptly.

The judge decided that he should be detained by the police until his sentence on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

The parents of Benita Dankwa, who was left paralyzed from the chest down, expressed their relief that their daughter had finally received justice.

Seven years had passed since Effort, 36 at the time, had been arrested after police had named him as the primary suspect in an assault on his wife, Benita Dankwa, 29, who was 29 at the time.

When her husband shot her in the chest, she believed he was trying to murder her.

She was not killed in the attack, but she was paralyzed and unable to urinate or defecate on her own.

She was originally sent to the Tema General Hospital because her spouse forgot to mention that she had been shot. The medical team at Tema General Hospital spotted the gunshot wound and referred her to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He was arrested after being temporarily detained and released on bond. A family friend who was concerned that the scenario may result in death told Manasseh Azure Awuni of the circumstance. Then Awuni produced a documentary on it, which shocked many Ghanaians.

Effort Dankwa was detained again and charged with attempted murder. He denied the accusation and said that some armed bandits from Ashaiman may have been the shooters.

Investigations showed that Benita had just spent the night with her husband and that there had been no break-in on the night of the attack.

In 2016, Effort Dankwa was jailed after police investigations revealed that he was the primary suspect in an assault on his wife.

Throughout the hearings, Benita told the court that she thought her better half had engaged in the behavior because he didn’t want a child.

According to court documents, Effort Dankwa allegedly asked his wife’s cousin Priscilla to clean up the crime scene a day after the occurrence.

Upon completing the duty, Priscilla claimed to have found a towel smeared in blood tucked under the bed. She stated that she was able to identify the owner of the towel right away because Effort had always used it for bathing.

The towel was green, according to Priscilla, and had three red dolls as well as flowers carved into it. She asserts that after displaying the bloodied towel to the defendant, he pushed her to discard it.
